Meet Jack Lynam and Bobby Gillham, current 4th year students of mechanical and manufacturing engineering in Trinity College, Dublin.
They are involved in a project with University of Sao Paulo and their task is to create an interface between a human and a personal assistant robot. The robot would have the ability to complete certain tasks and assist whoever required it.
The students visited Orwell and Elgin on Friday 13th November and spoke with Residents and Staff about the possible use of the personal assistant – to work with staff in their daily work and also with Residents and their activities of daily living.
We were delighted to welcome representatives from the , including Mr Ishak Ciftci, Director General for Persons with Disabilities and Elderly Services, to Orwell Healthcare yesterday.
They had a tour of our new centres The Elgin and Raglan which house our Convalescent and Acquired Brain Injury Units. They were particularly impressed by the care and attention to detail including the use of colour, hydraulic kitchens and doors which open both ways.
Representatives from EURES Ireland, Italy and Spain along with the President of the Italian Nursing Board and an Executive from the University of Lucca visited Orwell Healthcare last Wednesday to discuss employment opportunities.
Orwell Healthcare has embarked on a journey of change and has completed the first stage of the new developments. The building, which opened in April, is called ‘The Elgin’. The building stands beautifully over four floors with balcony views and bright hallways, also a Convalescent Unit.
The residents who moved from Orwell House are delighted with The Elgin and are thrilled to be staying in this state of the art building. The staff are also very excited with the opening of The Elgin and feel it provides residents with a homely environment, as the units are all small scale, with just 10 to 13 beds in a unit. The next stage of the project is the completion of ‘The Raglan’ which will happen over the next few months.
